(live-PR.com) - On Thursday, December 15, The San Diego Police Department Southeastern Division (SDPD) and the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation (JCNI) partnered for the 3rd Annual Jerry Griffen Toy Drive to distribute toys for underprivileged children in the southeastern San Diego community. The drive, assisted by Toys for Tots, served over 60 families, which included over 200 children. The party

was held at the Joe & Vi Jacobs Center in southeastern San Diego where over 1,000 toys, ranging from bicycles to iPods, were handed out. The event included lunch for the children and their families, a visit from Santa, and a few hours of entertainment.

“What made this such a fantastic event was the southeastern community stepping up to help their own,” said event chairman Officer Tyler Deyling. “Everything was donated by local vendors from the food to the space.”

“With the tough economy, it was a rough start,” said Duane Phillips from JCNI, “but everything fell into place, thanks to community support and Officer Deyling’s hard work.”

The Jerry Griffen Toy Drive is in memory of a fallen San Diego Police Motor Officer who was killed in the line of duty. In his honor, each police division in San Diego provides underprivileged children within their community toys during the holiday season. The Southeastern Division has sought to provide toys to as many children as possible, as well as have the opportunity to introduce the children and families to the police officers who serve their community.
