degree will be made official on 3 November, one week before classes begin, with the inauguration of the first edition that will be held in the Ciutadella Campus Auditorium at 5pm. The act will be presided over by Josep Joan Moreso, President of the UPF, with the presence of Imma Tubella, President of the UOC, Josep Huguet, Minister of Innovation, Universities and Enterprise, and Ernest Maragall, Minister of Education. The inaugural lecture, entitled “Learning to Teach and Teaching to Learn”, will be given by Miquel Berga, professor in the UPF’s Humanities Department.

Structure of the master’s degree and competences acquired
The Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Teacher Training consists of a generic module, four specialties and one practicum. All students will have to study the generic module (Bases of Secondary Education, with educational psychology content) regardless of the specialty they choose. Of the four specialties included, the UPF will impart, on-site, those of Biology and Geology, Mathematics, and English. The specialty in Educational Counselling and the generic module will be imparted by the UOC, in an e-learning format.
The master’s degree is organized around an extensive practicum (approximately 200 hours) that will take place over a 10-12 week period in secondary schools through an agreement with the Catalan government’s Department of Education. The aim of the practicum is to simultaneously acquire teaching resources and be able to test these in daily practice in schools.
The aim of this master’s degree is for students to acquire a series of competences and skills, such as integrating acquired knowledge in order to offer opinions and make decisions in complex situations, and be able to reflect on and communicate them; approach problem-solving through the application of acquired knowledge and teamwork; understand the educational potential of ICTs and use them as tools in the service of innovation and educational improvements, or maintain a critical attitude with regard to the social and institutional environment.
The master’s degree will be imparted in Catalan, Spanish and English (5%), although the specialty in English will be taught entirely in this language. Its duration is one academic year, but the master’s may be studied part-time over two academic years, in justified cases.
