24.01.2012 17:17:49 - As river cruises’ popularity continues to grow so does the number of river vessels and itineraries.
(live-PR.com) - AmaWaterways – who currently has thirteen ships in its fleet, including MS Amalegro, MS AmaBella and AmaDolce - is just one of the river cruise lines with new riverboats and itineraries for 2012.
Other cruise lines which have new vessels and itineraries include Viking, Uniworld and Avalon. Viking is launching six river cruise vessels in 2012 as part of their
$250 million expansion program. Each will carry 190 passengers, and will launch in the month of March 2012.
With a focus on luxury - alternative dining, spacious balconies and everything being included – it’s no surprise that river cruises are so popular. The most fascinating itineraries are available too – including a river cruise along the sought after River Mekong.
In fact, AmaWaterways has recently launched its second new vessel on the river – the 124-passenger MS AmaLotus.

Mal Barritt, director of Cruises.com – the largest cruise company in the world - says “the introduction of more river cruise ships is certainly an indicator of how popular this kind of cruising holiday is.
AMA Waterways – whose ships include MS Amalegro and MS Amadagio – is just one of the river cruise lines responding to the demand for river cruises by launching new ships.”
“When it comes to why river cruises are successful, I think it’s down to a number of factors – such as the ability to take passengers on an enchanting journey where large ocean ships are unable to go.
Some of the places are inaccessible by road too – making river cruising the only way you can get to see them. And, unlike land-based tours – which often involve coach rides and a number of hotel stays - river cruising means passengers unpack just the once – and still get to enjoy a multitude of fascinating ports” Barritt added.
