India Norway ink MoU on climate change



23.10.2009 07:03:16 Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh and Norwegian Minister of the Environment and International Development, Erik Solheim, signed the MoU,on co-operation in the area of climate change and implementation of the clean development mechanism (CDM).

(live-PR.com) - The MoU strengthen the efforts to conserve and improve the environment for present and future generations, sustainable development and implementation of CDM project activities.

Stating that the MoU would go a long way in tackling climate change, Ramesh said it would foster co-operation between the two countries by providing a forum for regular bilateral consultations, by stimulating the development and implementation

 

of the projects under the CDM."It would also ensure that unlike many developed countries, Norway would not oppose the CDM at the Copenhagen meet on climate change in December," he added.

The Norwegian Minister said his government would support India in the CDM area in its all capacity.This agreement,facilitator to ensure responsible progress in the implementation of the MoU through regular bilateral consultations rests on the Indo-Norway Joint Working Group on Environment.

The parties will also facilitate Indian and Norwegian companies with information about domestic CDM regulations and procedures, as well as information about market opportunities in India.
