(live-PR.com) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/04/09 -- The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, announced today federal government support for a variety of community-led remembrance projects honouring Veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Many of the events being supported will occur during Veterans' Week, which begins Thursday and runs through November 11.

"Our Veterans are ordinary individuals who have done extraordinary things to defend our freedom," said Minister Thompson. "During Veterans' Week, we not only pay tribute to all Canadian Veterans, we continue to honour those who serve our country today in Afghanistan and other areas of conflict."

A total of 18 community-led remembrance projects across the country are receiving a combined total of $59,480 through Veterans Affairs Canada's Community Engagement Partnership Fund. The remembrance projects include commemorative ceremonies, parades, musicals, conferences, plays, and educational projects.

Applications to the Community Engagement Partnership Fund are accepted throughout the year. Non-profit groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events may be eligible for funding.
