Efforts on to contain Fire in Jaipur

Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, who rushed here to take stock of the situation, said the fire has to die down on its own and there was “no other solution”.

“There is nothing else one can do.There is no other solution or alternative,” he said when asked if the fire would continue to rage.

IOC-Petroleum officials were verifying records of employees present on duty when the fire broke out around 1930 hours yesterday in the densely populated Sitapura industrial area, about 20 kms from here, where dozens of engineering, medical and technical colleges are located.

“It would be premature to comment how many people are trapped inside.Let IOC officials come out with the list of employees who were present,” Ranka said.
Offiicial media reports efforts are still on to bring the major fire under control which broke in a depot of Indian Oil Corporation in Sitapura Industrial Area in Jaipur on Thursday evening.

A loss of more than 500 crore rupees is estimated in the incident. 22 fire tenders 300 army personnel and 2 teams of oil fire experts are engaged in bringing the fire under control. 7 rehabilitation centers have been opened where the people evacuated from the nearby villages are taking shelter. The schools in the nearby villages will remain closed on Friday.

The District administration has prohibited entry in an area of five kilometers around the spot to prevent people from inhaling the poisonous gases. All factories in the industrial area have been closed. People in the nearby areas have started complaining of breathing problems and irritation in eyes. Nearby hospitals have been asked to attend to such patients.

The North-Westwern Railway has either cancelled or diverted 20 trains from Jaipur as the Railway track is passing near the incident sight. Nearby villages, colonies and hostels in nearby institutional area were evacuated and traffic on the adjoining Jaipur-Kota Highway was also diverted.
