(live-PR.com) - DVLA in Swansea could close if Wales got independence

With talk of welsh independence from the Plaid Cymru party, the MP for Swansea has hit back saying that the DVLA would have to close with the loss of thousands of jobs.

Swansea East MP Sian James said, "If Wales separated from the rest of the UK, DVLA in Swansea would be forced

to close.

"Plaid Cymru cannot deny that.

"DVLA is one of the major employers in South West Wales, and its closure would have catastrophic consequences.”

Nevertheless, there are doubts whether welsh independence would actually mean the closure of the Swansea based DVLA; the fact is that would Wales ever get total independence from central government. However, with the prospect of some heavy job losses, this is something that would affect not only the DVLA workers, but surrounding businesses too.

Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP Adam Price, who is also Plaid's director of campaigns, is preparing to launch his party's "independence initiative".

"At a time when Labour is sleepwalking to a massive electoral defeat at the hands of the Tories, I think it's bizarre that Sian James should choose to single out Plaid as the target for her venom.

"The truth is, it's not Plaid that are threatening jobs in West Wales but the Labour Government and its disastrous handling of the economy and constant kowtowing to its paymasters in the City of London.

"And when the London government is actually slashing jobs in JobCentrePlus and HMRC offices throughout West Wales, it's a bit rich for Sian to argue that we get a good deal.

"As we remember all too well from the days of the coal industry, what Whitehall gives, Whitehall can take way.

"Instead of constantly attacking those of us who stand up for Wales, it's time Labour politicians started justifying their salary and doing a bit of standing up themselves.

"That's the kind of independence we need: independent thinking, all too sadly lacking in a Labour Party that has lost its way."

This of course is totally irrelevant as the prospect of an independent Wales has only a small chance of happening, and even if it did go ahead it would not necessarily mean the end of the Swansea based DVLA.
