According to the study, in addition to compliance and regulations, pressure to support personally-owned devices, the increasing complexity of the enterprise network environment, and the need for easy-to-use NAC solutions have challenged organizations' ability to maintain any semblance of visibility and control.
- 44% of organizations surveyed view network complexity as an inhibitor
- 49% of all organizations find current access solutions complex
- There are now 40% more endpoint devices than end-users
"Between internal and external pressures from end-user expectations for access, the number of new endpoint devices, and the need to reduce complexity, this is an extremely challenging time for many IT organizations," explained Derek Brink, Aberdeen's vice president and research fellow for IT Security. "Organizations should use this opportunity to evaluate solutions to help them address the shortcomings of their current infrastructure and their need for visibility, such as Avenda's identity-based NAC."
Findings within the report also show that the increased use of wireless networks indicate a strong market interest for NAC solutions to provide visibility into the state of endpoints across network technologies -- firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, and vulnerability scanners. This will ensure consistency of policies for all users and devices across access methods in order to standardize compliance information and eliminate siloed data collection.
"The Aberdeen report validates our current solution offering and direction, as well as what we've heard from customers," said Trent Fierro, Director of Marketing at Avenda. "Aberdeen's findings are extremely positive as we've focused on ease-of-use, interoperability, and providing the visibility to address these new external pressures, including those dealing with monitoring and securing access for BYOD initiatives."
